Injection molding tool as the basis for plastic parts

In injection molding, a mold for the production of plastic parts is referred to as a tool. Such injection molds are square steel blocks consisting of two halves with one or more cavities. The respective material is injected into this cavity via a corresponding device. In mold making, the surface of a plastic component is already defined by engravings such as lettering and symbols. An injection mold is therefore a complex form that can be used for years to produce special and precisely fitting components for series production.

For us, flexible toolmaking means: creating new tools, repairs, adaptations and maintenance of all customer tools directly on site. Capacities for unforeseen events are constantly kept free so that we can actively respond to urgent orders.

For you as a customer, this means

  • Maximum flexibility and maximum speed
  • Individual quality production and precision
  • Complete solution: from design to production to the packaged end product

As an injection mold manufacturer, we can offer an optimal solution for your injection molds at a fair price for all wishes and corresponding part requirements. Our numerous references speak for themselves. If you have any questions or requests, please contact us directly at any time! We look forward to your inquiry and will be happy to advise you on the implementation of your injection molding project - from mold construction to the finished end product.

Complete solution for injection molding: toolmaking for your plastics project

To customize your projects, we offer you the support of our innovative technology and design department in toolmaking. Using the latest technologies and targeted analyses, we are able to identify even minor weaknesses in the geometry of your plastic part or tool design and correct them accordingly before the injection mold is created.

The convincing advantages of a perfectly designed and manufactured injection mold include long-term use with consistent quality - for both small and large series. In addition, small series can easily be scaled up to large series as the tool is already available.

Please note: Injection molds can only be ordered from Plastro Mayer as a complete solution in conjunction with a subsequent order for injection molded parts.

At Plastro Mayer, we always take a holistic approach to your project. In tool and mold making, we approach each customer individually. Continuous transparency in the process is important to us. Before manufacturing the injection mold, we design your tool according to your data and adapt it specifically to the material you have chosen. If a filling simulation delivers the desired results, the injection mold goes into mechanical production. After the injection molds have been used, we store them for the next order. We involve you in every step of this process and keep you up to date.

Design of injection molds

The following special features must be taken into account when designing injection molds: The wall thicknesses of the components should be as thick as necessary and as thin as possible. Seams should be cleverly positioned, transitions rounded off and surfaces chamfered for better demolding. Fixtures are then fitted appropriately. The ratio of cost and weight savings should be as optimal as possible.

Machining the injection mold

In toolmaking, the injection mold is milled, turned, drilled, ground, eroded, polished and much more during the mechanical production phase. All the work carried out by an injection mold manufacturer is designed to meet the customer's specific requirements.

At Plastro Mayer, it is of course also possible to incorporate existing injection molds into the manufacturing process as part of a tool relocation. If necessary, we will be happy to optimize them or adapt them to the respective project.

FAQ's about toolmaking

How is an injection mold constructed?
In plastic injection molding, the injection mold used to produce plastic parts is called a tool. Roughly speaking, a mold can be thought of as a square steel block consisting of two halves with a cavity in the middle. In more detail, an injection mold consists of an ejector side and a nozzle side. In addition to a clamping plate (with which the mold is fixed in the machine) and a mold plate (which contains the surface structure of the component), the nozzle side also contains a cooling system, guide elements, a centering ring and a sprue bushing. The ejector side also contains a clamping plate and a mold platen as well as ejector plates, ejector pins and support strips. This means that the nozzle side is responsible for inserting the plastic into the mold as the stationary mold half. The ejector side, as the opening side, ensures that the component can also be removed from the injection mold. This is usually done by robots.
How is an injection mold made?
Thanks to the use of modern machinery, we are able to precisely realize a wide variety of contours in the tool. However, before production can begin in the tool shop, the mold must be developed and designed on the PC with all the necessary fixtures. This is done in our own design department using the CAD data of the component, which is provided to us by the customer. Once an initial sketch has been produced, the tool technology is determined. Once the technical design of the mold has been determined, it must be matched to the selected plastic or material and a sprue system developed. Once the individual mold elements have been designed, a filling simulation can be carried out. If the results are satisfactory, the mold is sent to the mechanical production stage. Here, the tool is milled, turned, drilled, ground, eroded, polished and much more in order to implement all customer requirements and obtain a functioning and flawless injection mold. The finished tool can then be tested in our injection molding production facility during the first sampling. If it does not deliver the desired result, it is optimized and adapted directly in our toolmaking department.
